About the Author
C. Rajendran (b.1952) is a distinguished scholar who served as Professor and Head of the Department of Sanskrit and Dean of the Faculty of Languages at the University of Calicut. He has authored 31 books and more than 200 research papers. His notable works in English include Vyaktiviveka-A Critical Study, Studies in Comparative Poetics, The Traditional Sanskrit Theatre of Kerala, Sign and Structure, and Understanding Tradition. Rajendran has been recognized with several awards, including the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his contributions in Malayalam. He has delivered lectures at prestigious institutions around the world and served as a Visiting Professor at Ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales (EHESS), Paris, and Jageillonian University, Krakow.

Preface
This volume compiles the proceedings of the National Seminar on Sanskrit in the Twenty-First Century, held from May 29-31, 2007, at the University of Calicut, in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. The seminar brought together several eminent scholars and covered a wide array of topics related to Sanskrit studies. The Sahitya Akademi decided to publish the seminar proceedings, entrusting the task to Professor Rajendran. This publication hopes to provide valuable insights and directions for the future propagation of Sanskrit studies in the new millennium. Special thanks are due to all the scholars who contributed their papers to this collection and to Sahitya Akademi for its continuous support of Sanskrit studies at Calicut University.
